"Memories of Sunshine" was inspired by our trip to Provence, France. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers were in full bloom. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance, and a beautiful summer day with a few peaceful clouds drifting by made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is full of warmth, color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.

Painted on location in the Alsatian town of Colmar, France,  the scenery was inspiring everywhere you looked. Straight out of a postcard, practically every view is storybook picture perfect. Today I set up my easel amongst the Russian sage and Black-eyed Susans to capture their joy and energy with a sliver of the cross-timbered architecture in the distance to set the stage.  I hope you are transported to this beautiful, magical place!

During a trip to Santa Fe, we visited this peaceful street off Canyon Road where each home is postcard perfect. Between the unique adobe architecture, the dramatic morning light, and the beautiful plantings surrounding each home, it was hard to choose what to paint! I was drawn to this turquoise doorway and gorgeous raking morning light. I loved the oranges of the adobe contrasted against the purples in the various blooming sage plants. Chamisa and aspens glow in a warm golden palette and pops of ruby blooms add energy and warmth to the scene. Welcome home!

Just Sold! I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Sun rises on the horizon, casting its beautiful bronze glow across fields of golden petals. Creating a quilted patchwork with sunflower blossoms and their fronds, unexpected pops of red and purple peek out creating a rhythm and energy. Perky, circular faces smile back at you and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this magical moment.

Contrasting textures of running paint and thick palette knife strokes create extreme dimension, connecting background to foreground, beckoning you onward and bringing the scene to life. May you relish this peaceful odyssey while soaking in the beauty of your surroundings and enjoying the rhythms of mother nature.

The wildflower explosion this year was out of this world! A giant, woven patchwork carpet of colors that danced across the fields of the Texas Hill Country. I started this piece on location, but kept my strokes loose and free to capture that feeling of pure joy.  Dreamy light pours in through the distance illuminating your path and beckoning you to explore the beauty that lies ahead.
