"Reaching New Heights" Textured Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Reaching New Heights" ©2022 Niki Gulley
48” x 36" textured mixed media painting
on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. Choosing warm yellows, reds and greens and utilizing thick chunky staccato strokes add to that childlike whimsy and I hope you are transported back to a happy, carefree time and place.

New "Reaching to Heaven II" Fall Aspen Impasto Painting by Niki Gulley

"Reaching to Heaven II"
20" x 16" textured oil painting on canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. With the electric blue sky combined with the vibrant yellow and red leaves, this is my idea of the heaven that is nature. As such, I want your eye to move upwards pulling the focus skyward with a sense of wonder and whimsy.

New Abstract Texas Wildflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Nature's Brushstrokes II" ©2022 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted to render Texas bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vibrant reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of wildflower glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and  begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what's beyond.

“Sundown Serenade" ©2022 Niki Gulley

"Running Red III" Textured Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

“Running Red III” ©2022 Niki Gulley

30" x 48" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

In this series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

"Blue Rhapsody III" Textured Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

“Blue Rhapsody III" ©2022 Niki Gulley
34" x 34" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.
