"Cacophony" Textured Autumn Aspen Painting Niki Gulley

“Cacophony" ©2024 Niki Gulley
30” x 30" textured mixed media painting
on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

Enjoying the concert of aspen leaves rustling in the breeze and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so mesmerizing and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, all add to that uplifting feeling of being immersed in nature's symphony.

"Cobalt Cascade" ©2024 Niki Gulley

30" x 30" textured mixed media painting on 1.5" gallery wrap canvas with the scene continuing around the edges

I wanted this painting to be about the joy I feel in springtime when Texas wildflowers are bursting forth, creating their symphony of colors. Magical light flows around them casting its warm glow and hope for the upcoming day. As the sun illuminates the horizon, bluebonnets and a kaleidoscope of blooms sparkle and dance across the canvas. I hope "Cobalt Cascade" fills your heart with the power of nature to lift your spirits, energize your soul and bathe you in peace.

Abstract Poppy Field Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Blossoming Dreams" ©2024 Niki Gulley
24" x 36" textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy. There is something awe-inspiring about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of vibrant, energetic crimson that delights your senses and lifts your spirits. Arranging the wildflower masses in the foreground to create waves of color and repeating those curving shapes throughout the landscape add to a sense of joyful harmony and tranquility.

Bluebonnet Painting from the Texas Hill Country by Niki Gulley

"Spring's Brushstrokes II," Texas Hill Country ©2023 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 20" x 10" textured acrylic painting on canvas

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! I painted these Texas bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush on location with extremely thick paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. It turns out the barn was built by the homeowner, and I was so taken with its beautiful craftsmanship. I chose a vertical composition so that the wildflowers in the foreground would draw your eye straight to its character and status. Leaving out extraneous background details also reinforces that feeling.

Autumn Aspen Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Painted Forest" ©2024 Niki Gulley
18" x 24" textured mixed media painting
on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

I loved this brilliant aspen forest with its bright white aspen trunks slicing through all of the vibrant red and yellow foliage. The patterns of the trees created a sort of rhythm and I focused on the placement of the ivory sentinels, the diagonal purple shadows that they cast and the rustling of the leaves to add to that musical feeling. I hope you, too, can sense the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn is in full swing.

Textured Bluebonnet Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

“Harvesting Color” ©2024 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" Textured Acrylic on Canvas

Recently we drove all over the Texas Hill Country, taking in the beauty of this year’s gorgeous wildflower crop! I’ve always loved this old stone farmhouse in Marble Falls, so today we just had to stop so I could paint it and the flower fantasy surrounding it. Besides a prolific year for bluebonnets, the white poppies were denser than I’d ever seen. Painting them large in the foreground, allows you to take in their individual beauty. Arranging the rows of wildflowers veritcally are designed to lift your spirits and guide you to your retreat in the distance. May you enjoy your escape to the beautiful hill country!

"Growing Sunshine" by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Growing Sunshine" ©2024 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" textured mixed media painting on canvas

These cheerful sunflowers, vibrant ruby red Cannas and delicate Russian Sage were planted in my backyard and they were so bright and colorful, I just had to paint them! So this week, I dragged my body out of bed at 5 a.m. to capture them at sunrise before our Texas heat reached 100 degrees. While not normally an early riser, it was well worth it to bask in their glory while I was painting. I hope you, too, can enjoy their sunshine and start your day with a smile.

"Scenic Byway II" ©2024 Niki Gulley

16" x 20" textured oil painting on canvas

Painted just outside of Santa Fe, the fall colors were gorgeous this year. The contrast of complimentary oranges and blues and yellows and purples created an energetic symphony for the eyes! Bright sunshine warmed up the day and caused the light to glow and dance. I hope you can enjoy the escape of a leisurely drive through the beautiful autumn scenery of New Mexico.

SOLD • 12" x 12" textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

Just Sold! I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. "Morning in Paradise" Palette Knife Seashore painting by Niki Gulley

"Morning in Paradise" ©2024 Niki Gulley
9" x 12" textured oil painting

I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, I strove to capture the sparkle the sun cast across the turquoise waters as it slowly rose above the horizon. Creating bobbing diamonds of sparkling light across the surface was truly mesmerizing to watch.

"Gondola Ride II" Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Gondola Ride II," Venice ©2024 Niki Gulley
12" x 9" oil painting

I painted this piece on location during our Art Trek we taught in Venice while their infamous Carnival celebration was taking place. Since St. Mark's Square can get overrun with tourists, we chose to set up our easels along a side street to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the city. I love the magical light that comes flooding in through the canals and is so distinctive of Venice. The simple brick bridge and the one yellow building in the distance sets a perfect backdrop to the gondolier rowing his enchanted passengers through the romantic back canals.

Visiting Siena, Italy - Tuscany Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

"Tunnel of Light," Siena, Italy
12" x 9" oil painting by Niki Gulley

Day 3:  TUSCANY ART TREK - Siena
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On the third day of our Tuscany Art Trek, we visited the Medieval hill town of Siena, with its incredible marble Duomo, great people-watching plaza, and interesting alleyways radiating out from the campo with something new to discover around every turn. While some of our group shopped, some photographed and others relaxed on the square, I set up in one of the quiet cobble streets to capture the textures of these ancient walls and mood of this unique city. For dinner that night, we treated ourselves to a delicious home-made Italian meal of pastas, truffles, pecorino cheese and some amazing red wine!

A mid-afternoon gelato break!
