Getting a chance to escape home confinement for a quick road trip to the mountains to paint, was just what the doctor ordered! Spending time in nature and reveling in the stunning fall colors with the crisp cool air, rejuvenated my spirit and inspired my muse. Add to the fact that I love aspens and you have just about the perfect remedy for these challenging times. I hope that you will feel my excitement and energy so that it will bring you as much joy as it did me.

Just Sold through Seaside Gallery! We visited Tuscany at the end of summer and were surrounded by grapevines everywhere we went, with the gorgeous, plump purple grapes ready to harvest at any moment. I loved the vibrant vines in the foreground framing the rolling hills dotted with more grapevines, olive trees, and plowed grain fields in the distance. Setting up my easel across from this vineyard, I created this textured oil painting with palette knife and a lot of paint. I arranged the planted vines to lead your eye back to the Tuscan villa and then to the hill town perched above the valley. Morning light cast deep purple shadows on the ground and caused the leaves and soil to glow. As a treat when I finished, we enjoyed a picnic of salami, proscuitto, pecorino and of course, vino. Yum!

As we were nearing the end of our New England adventure, the temperature dropped 30 degrees overnight and we woke up to 20 degrees and frost the next morning. Luckily the view out our window was beautiful and I could continue to paint the magnificent fall foliage from the comfort of indoors that morning! The lighting coming through the clouds was so dramatic, causing the leaves to glow. The soft breeze that was blowing caused the foliage to sway and dance to its own rhythm and I wanted to capture that movement and energy in “Autumn Awakening.” I liked how the distant mountain was a deep shade of purple since the sun wasn't on it, and how it set off the contrasting complimentary colors in the foreground. Created with palette knife and thick paint, this canvas is loaded with texture, color and movement.

I painted this colorful birch trees on location with the fall hues emerging in all of their glory. I loved this grove of trunks that twisted and turned, slicing bright white through the tangle of autumn leaves. Painted over several mornings, the air was crisp but the sun made for beautiful painting conditions that illuminated the subject and warmed the air. I hope you, too, can feel the thrill of being surrounded by nature on a perfect fall day.

I find being immersed in nature can have such an uplifting effect, and I wanted to share that feeling with you in Woodland Adventure. I chose pure, intense reds and yellows contrasted against autumn greens to create a fall forest that vibrates with color and energy.  I placed the vivid foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance on a beautiful fall day.

Just Sold! My husband and I both LOVE waterfalls, and we try to visit them whenever we can find them on our adventures. This beautiful cascade turned out to be right in my husband's backyard where he grew up. We were in New York visiting his hometown, and having grown up in a city, I couldn't believe this gorgeous spectacle was right outside his door! Not far from Niagara falls, this massive water flow crashed and glided along the intricate rock formations rushing into the river far below. The sound of water rushing was so energetic and peaceful at the same time, and I wanted to capture that invigorating feeling in my painting. Setting up my easel at its base, I set out to recreate the energy and flow of the cascades while showing some of the lush vegetation surrounding them. Creating strokes in diagonal sweeping shapes to enhance that feeling of movement and rhythm, I hope you, too, can hear the flowing water's music and feel the gentle spray from its mist.

Just Sold! During our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband and I led, we decided to paint right at our b and b because the grounds were so beautiful. Meanwhile the photographers and tourists, visited the nearby towns to photograph covered bridges, wooden barns and the gorgeous fall foliage. I decided to paint this regal birch tree next to our inn. I liked how it was perched on top if this hill, extending towards the sky. The vibrant yellows and orange leaves vibrated with energy against the clear blue sky, and I wanted to capture that feeling on my canvas. What a great way to spend the day!

Inspired by a trip to Provence, these lavender fields were gorgeous and stretched as far as the eye could see! I wanted to focus on the perfectly planted purple rows, contrasted against the vibrant yellow sunflowers in the distance. I love how those colors pop next to each other. Fluffy clouds drift by in diagonal patterns that mimic the lavender aisles and create a harmony throughout the scene. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene.

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

At the same time, the clouds above were so voluminous and dramatic that I had to recreate the scene. The horizon stretches out before us as festive blossoms dance in the early evening glow. Leaving my strokes loose and free and working with palette knife to create volume and texture, all add to the energy of the painting. In this new series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.
