Painted layer upon layer, dreamy light shines through the underlying tangle of spring hues creating a mysterious aura of peace and hope. Glimpses of bluebonnets peek through the colorful cascade signaling the exuberance of springtime and bountiful blooms that lift your spirit. Bursting with texture and energy, may "Cobalt Cascade" elicit joy, serenity and promises of the day to come.

"Blue Rhapsody" Textured Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

"Rooted Together" from Monet's Garden by Impressionist Niki Gulley

Rooted Together was inspired from a trip we took to Monet’s Gardens outside of Paris. Being a lover of impressionist paintings, I was awestruck standing in the footsteps of one of my favorite painters! The gardens have been maintained immacuately and I could see exactly where Monet painted his paintings. I’ve always loved påurple irises and was particularly drawn to this view with the two irises entangled together. Off in the distance, you can see Monet’s picturesque house with that spectacular view of his garden.

"Flowing into Spring" Palette Knife Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

I painted this scene from the Dallas Arboretum on location when the weather was beautiful and the spring buds were in full bloom. I love tulips being one of the first flowers to announce that winter has officially ended, so I focused on these colorful red and white striped ones in the foreground, which contrast so well against the complimentary green leaves and grasses. I also liked how their height leads you back into the distant flower beds and onto the Degolyer house in the background, so I chose this vertical panorama format to accentuate that feeling. Loaded with thick oil paint, texture and movement, I hope you can feel the joy that spring is in the air!

New "Garden Glory" Textured Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

After several months of 90 to 100 degree temperatures, I have been relishing the cool mornings and highs in the 80s. Once more my backyard was calling me to set up my easel and capture all of our hard-earned efforts. My hours of weeding, watering, pruning and planting all paid off and I have thoroughly enjoyed our colorful bounty of blooms! From beautiful, tangled Russian sage, to vibrant red and yellow cannas, to cheerful sunflowers that blossomed all summer long, our garden's symphony lifted our spirits daily.

"Spring Forward III" Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

I painted "Spring Forward" while visiting the Texas Hill Country. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

"Perched on High" Palette Knife Painting from Tuscany by Niki Gulley

Just Sold! Painted during our Tuscany Foodie Trek that we lead, I had been admiring this view from the back of our villa that we stay at over the course of the week. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with 360 degree views of rolling hills and valleys, dotted by olive groves and quintessential Tuscan farmhouses. In particular, I was attracted to this stone house with its window awning casting a diagonal shadow across its facade, nestled in between cypress, and the rolling countryside as a backdrop behind it. Painted late in the day, the sun was beginning to set creating gorgeous colors in the sky and casting a golden glow on everything it kissed in the foreground. May you be transported to the magic of Tuscany!
