Cypress Boulevard pastel from Tuscany by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

 “Cypress Boulevard"

20" x 16” pastel on board
unframed

Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the vast open landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany!  Beautiful, billowing clouds drift overhead. As the sun begins setting light casts dramatic shadows creating a rhythm beckoning you to journey up the drive, guiding you to your new getaway you can call home. Filled with energetic sweeping strokes and uplifting color, “ Cypress Boulevard," hints that dreams really can come true.

Around the

"Around the Bend" ©2009 Niki Gulley
24" x 36" • pastel • SOLD

Here is a commission piece that I've recently completed on one of my favorite subjects – autumn. I enjoyed experimenting with the interplay of colors amongst the foliage and creating a sense of mystery with what lays beyond the pathway.

Autumn Birches

pastel 4" x 10"

With summer ending, I'm getting excited about fall's approach. I love when there's a chill in the air and the leaves start turning colors. Having grown up in the north, I really miss the birch trees with their knotted bark and gorgeous colors. Painting them transports me home!

Queen Ann's Lace

pastel 7" x 5"

I set up a floral still life in my studio, and particularly liked this close-up of the Queen Ann's Lace. Having grown up in Illinois, they've always been one of my favorite wildflowers from up north.

"Sunburst, White Rock Lake" ©2009 Niki Gulley
pastel • 8" x 10"

I wanted to depict a different vantage point of White Rock Lake and I was intrigued by how my camera captured the sunlight peering through the clouds. It almost looks like a beam of light is shining down from heaven! So, I decided to go ahead and paint it that way to suggest an aura of mystery in the scene.

Impressions, White Rock Lake

Pastel • 5" x 7"

To beat our 100º heat, I headed out to White Rock Lake in the morning and captured the Dallas skyline at early light. I love this view of the city.
