New "Springtime in Tuscany" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

"Springtime in Tuscany" ©2017 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24" x 12" textured oil painting

Just Sold! I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies and wildflowers in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

In this vertical wildflower series, I've framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These poppies look great hung alone or in a grouping, too!

"Autumn Serenade II" by Niki Gulley Wins First Place at Milan Gallery's Discovery Show

"Autumn Serenade II" ©2017 by Niki Gulley
30" x 40" original textured oil painting

Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

I'm excited that "Autumn Serenade II" has been juried into Milan Gallery's Discovery Show and received first place from the jurors! With that award, comes 6 months of representation at the gallery. If you're in the Fort Worth area, I hope you can check out my latest paintings at the gallery.

"Soaring Dreams II" by Niki Gulley Juried into Milan Gallery's Discovery Show

"Soaring Dreams II" ©2017 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on canvas • 34" x 34"

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting golds and reds contrasted against a lavender-blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by, I've arranged the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest. Using diagonal leading lines with the tree trunks and limbs, your eye gazes into the focal point where all of the elements come together. Meanwhile, utilizing thick, curving paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.

I'm I'm excited that "Soaring Dreams II" has been juried into Milan Gallery's Discovery Show!

"Afternoon Laundry" from Burano, Italy by Niki Gulley

"Afternoon Laundry," Burano, Italy
SOLD • 7" x 5" • textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

Just sold! On the second day of our Venice Art Trek, we headed to the islands of Murano and Burano. First Murano, famous for its beautiful glass, to see a glass blowing demonstration and tour the museum. Then, onto Burano which is known as a fishing community (and for the homemade lace that they make there), and to help the fisherman find their houses while coming back from sea, they painted their homes every color of the rainbow. With the picturesque canals and so many great colored buildings to choose from, it's hard to pick a single subject matter! We were drawn to this quiet location, however, and the vibrant blue stucco wall with that morning's laundry being hung out to dry screamed to be painted. Today I chose to work with thick oil paint and palette knife to capture the rough surface of the walls, resulting in a final painting which is loaded with texture and color.

Painting and photographing in Burano.
