New "Autumn Reflections" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Autumn Reflections" ©2015 Niki Gulley

18" x 48" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

In Autumn Reflections, I wanted to give you the feeling of a beautiful, peaceful retreat on a colorful autumn day. To create that feeling of being immersed in nature, I chose this long panorama format so that the sanctuary is completely engulfed in fall foliage, a perfect escape from bustling city life. Loaded with uplifting color, still waters suggest a calming effect. One small ripple in the lake's distance lets you know that some ducks just swam by and you are surrounded by wildlife, not a care in the world.

If you're in the Dallas area this coming weekend and you'd like to see Autumn Reflections and more of my palette knife paintings in person, please stop by my booth at the Cottonwood Art Festival.

New "October Reflections" Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"October Reflections" ©2014 Niki Gulley

30" x 40" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

Living in Dallas we are surrounded by concrete, but I have a couple of favorite spots that I go to when I want to be immersed in nature. This pond is always filled with lily pads that I enjoy painting in the spring, but I wanted to paint them in the autumn this time surrounded by the beautiful fall colors. I loved the contrast of the bright azure sky being reflected an inky blue in the water against the fiery reds in the foliage. Arranging the composition in a circular pattern to suggest harmony and tranquility, I hope you feel energized and rejuvenated gazing upon this peaceful oasis.

"Scenic Route" - Autumn oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Scenic Route” ©2011 Niki Gulley

Oil on canvas • 20” x 60”

My husband and I love exploring the back roads whenever we’re en route somewhere. We always discover such interesting places, and the scenery is so much more picturesque than along the highway. It’s fun to slow down and enjoy the journey with no agenda, which is what I had in mind when I painted “Scenic Route,” a beautiful fall drive through the winding hills far from the city.

If interested in purchasing this painting, e-mail me at Niki Gulley.

Niki Gulley Paintings "Flowing Light"

"Flowing Light" Original Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

36" x 60"

You walk down a path sheltered by autumn drenched trees, intrigued by the light flowing through the leaves and branches, casting shadows, colors changing with each gentle breeze, sunlight cascading down your pathway. Peaceful, tranquil this painting flows around the canvas capturing the memory of autumn: lush crisp colors, crunchy leaves and a walk through the woods Walt Whitman would have envied. "Flowing Light" is oil on canvas, 36" x 60" and is available for purchase.

To see "Flowing Light" and more of my textured palette knife oil paintings in person, stop by my booth at Art City Austin, the premier juried outdoor art festival in Austin, TX, April 2-3. I'll be at booth #328 – on Cesar Chavez St. between San Antonio & Guadalupe Streets. Visit artallianceaustin.org/art_city_austin.html for details.

Fire and Gold oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Fire and Gold" ©2010 Niki Gulley

oil on canvas • 36" x 48"

I used to love it as a kid when my parents would take me to the forest preserves near our home outside of Chicago. We would spend the whole day bike riding, picnicking and being immersed in nature and I relished this time with my family. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate those warm memories, choosing reds and yellows of autumn to heighten those happy feelings and using energetic strokes with my paint reminiscent of a carefree, simpler time.

Autumn's Pulse oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn's Pulse” ©2010 Niki Gulley

11” x 14” oil on board

I created this autumn scene with palette knife and extremely thick oil paint to achieve texture and suggest the energy found in nature. Can you feel the breeze blowing through the leaves?
