New Uplifting Texas Wildflower Paintings by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

"Musical Interlude" 34" x 34" textured acrylic paintings on canvas
by Niki Gulley

In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the bluebonnets are painting the horizon in shades of blue. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the  the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Pulling in close on the blooms with a hint of the landscape in the distance and the sky dancing beyond that, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.

If you'd like to see this piece and the rest of the collection live, check out  – https://www.instagram.com/p/DVY2TkBDjVl/.  I will be unveiling the entire series in person at The Good Art Company Gallery's "Land in Motion" opening this Friday. New Texas Bluebonnet and Wildflower Paintings by Impressionist Niki Gulley

Two 36" x 36" textured acrylic paintings on canvas
by Niki Gulley

I am beyond ready for spring – North Carolina is beautiful but we had snow last week! I miss Texas wildflowers so much. After the winter doldrums, those bright blue beauties and perky Indian Paintbrush are the first signal that winter is finally ending. Carpets of cobalt, crimson and gold fill the fields with hope and color, lifting our spirits.

Loaded with warm memories and delightful anticipation of our visit back, I've been working on capturing that joy, movement and vibrancy in this new "Land in Motion" series. Painting these wildflowers larger than life, I wanted you to be fully immersed in their beauty. Imagine an "Alice in Wonderland"-type experience where you step into a world of childlike wonder, curiosity and depth.

I built up so many layers in this set so that there is a richness in dimension, a harmonic flowing movement between earth and sky, and a bouquet of hidden surprises. May every time you gaze into these you see something new to spark your imagination. The texture on these literally leaps off the canvas, and I hope you feel that jubilance, wonderment and energy!

If you'd like to see these live, check out  – https://www.instagram.com/p/DVY2TkBDjVl/
and don't miss the unveiling in person of this new series at The Good Art Company Gallery's "Land in Motion" opening this Friday. I'd love to see you there! And, if you're not in town, check out this new collection soon online at goodartcompany.com/.

"Serpentine Drive" in Tuscany by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

"Serpentine Drive" ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 12" x 16" textured oil painting

Before we taught our Tuscany Foodie Trek, my husband and I spent a few days exploring the Tuscan countryside, painting and photographing the iconic scenery. "Serpentine Drive" illustrates one of the fascinating places we stopped with its mile long cypress lined drive. It felt like the trees snaked back and forth to infinity! Setting up my easel in late afternoon, I was able to capture the dramatic light as the setting sun illuminated the tops of the rolling hills and created long, dramatic shadows. Between the repetition of the vertical arbors and the horizontally flowing hills, the scene created a rhythmic harmony that added to the joy and serenity of the moment.

New "Delightful Anticipation" Large Scale Wildflower Landscape Painting by Niki Gulley

"Delightful Anticipation” ©2026 Niki Gulley

60" x 36” textured acrylic painting on wrap around canvas

Moving through the fear of starting a new large project – so exciting and yet intimidating! To help me paint more from my soul and less from my head, I first created an abstract "mess" of color. Then, allowing the canvas to guide me to tell its story and where to place my strokes and colors, the fun began. Truly

exhilarating and just a little scary letting go of all control, like magic the landscape starts to emerge. I relish that freedom just playing and the aha moment where you feel everything coming together. After days, weeks, and even months of building layer upon layer of thick, textured paint, your subconscious vision comes to life.

The canvas dances with color, sings with energy and my heart feels full. That's when I know it is complete and I can't wait to share that with you so you can get lost in the joy of luscious paint and nature's beauty, too! Filled with so many layers and surprising pops of color all over the canvas, you'll never get bored looking into "Delightful Anticipation" as there is always something new to discover.

If you'd like to see more of the texture and brushwork in this one, check out this video: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUTa4eZiZ6I/.

This painting is best seen in person so that you can step into this life-size canvas and feel our' landscape's beauty yourself. I’ll be revealing this beauty live at The Good Art Company April 3rd. Message us if you would like an invite to this special show!

Capturing Rhododendrons in NC with Asheville Artist Niki Gulley

"Blue Ridge Bounty" ©2026 Niki Gulley
20" x 10" textured acrylic painting on canvas

This summer we hiked the Appalachian Trail along Carver's Gap to see the breathtaking Rhododendrons blooming along Roan Mountain. Not only were the flowers spectacular, bursting with every shade of red from magenta and pink to tangerine orange, but the mountain views were so inspiring. On one side you could see for miles into Tennessee and on the other side ridge after ridge of North Carolina. I hope you enjoy the peace and beauty as you escape into this gorgeous hike!

New Cheerful Sunflower Painting of the Blue Ridge Mountains by Niki Gulley

"Springing with Joy" ©2026 Niki Gulley
48" x 36" textured acrylic painting on wrap around canvas

This piece is all about capturing that feeling of wandering through a summer meadow where every color of the rainbow seems to be blooming at once. My palette knife allows me to build up those chunky, textured strokes that make the flowers feel dimensional and alive. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.

"Ruby Road" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

"Ruby Road" ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 12" x 16” textured oil painting

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the vast open landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany! Perched on a hilltop with its long curving driveway, this villa is set against the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape. Rows of ruby blooms draw your eye back to the rolling hills and beautiful billowing clouds. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this canvas is loaded with movement, color and dimension.

Asheville Artist Niki Gulley Exhibits at the North Carolina Arboretum "Art in Azaleas" Exhibit

"Arched Beauty" ©2026 Niki Gulley
20" x 10" textured acrylic painting on canvas

I love the vivid warm colors of the Arboretum's Azaleas popping against the complimentary green hues of the foliage. It is such a peaceful escape to wander the trails and discover something new around every bend. Choosing a vertical panoramic format for this one invites you to admire the azaleas, continue along your path towards the light and the beautiful forested canopy in the distance, all while lifting your spirits.

I’m excited to be exhibiting this piece at the NC Arboretum’s Native Azalea Art Show! Check out the beautiful gardens this April when the Azaleas are blooming. And, make sure to stop by the Education Center to see all of the artist’s beautiful interpretations.
The exhibit will also continue through May 7th.

"Texas Twist" Whimsical Live Oak Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Texas Twist” ©2026 Niki Gulley
48" x 24" Textured Acrylic on Canvas

I am fascinated by our Texas live oaks. Their gnarly, tangled branches are unlike other trees and tell such a story of their life – twists, turns and all. Standing tall and branching wide, they offer shelter and respite from the hot Texas sun and grow where few other sentinels can survive such drought conditions. Their deep, etched bark gave me the perfect opportunity to play with color and texture. Add in the whimsical swirling sk and you get a modern take on Van Gogh!

Texas Bluebonnet Landscape by Contemporary Impressionistic Niki Gulley

“Harmonic Refrain" ©2026 Niki Gulley
48" x 60" textured acrylic painting on wrap around canvas

My labor of love these past two months! With the canvas as wide as I am tall, and so many ups and downs my step ladder painting it, this one was quite the workout. But, it was important for me to completely immerse you in the energy found amongst nature. This painting is best seen in person so that you can step into this life-size canvas and feel our' landscape's beauty yourself.

I made sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the vivacity found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting. Rendering the wildflowers along with their surroundings loosely plays with taking a traditional subject matter and putting a new twist on it.
Surprising pops of color invite your eyes to dance around the canvas, feeling the excitement of the moment. Voluminous and dramatic clouds surround your journey into this uplifting harmonic expression of joy and hope.

Plein Air Painting in Iceland with Artist Niki Gulley

"Relaxing View" 9" x 12” textured acrylic painting on panel by Niki Gulley

Today the painters in our Art Treks group stayed right on the beautiful grounds of our hotel to paint the dramatic scenery. Meanwhile, our photographers and tourists went off exploring. We had the day all to ourselves with the exception of the curious hotel staff, who loved our paintings so much, they featured us on their Instagram page!

For our second painting that day, I chose this relaxing view from our patio. The Atlantic sits in the distance and the two chairs invite you to have a seat, take in nature's beauty and leave all of your worries behind.

Tuscany Foodie Trek Sadly Concludes with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

20" x 10" textured acrylic painting by Niki Gulley

Day 7, Pienza:  TUSCANY FOODIE TREK
Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

SOLD! On the last day of our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we explored nearby Pienza to enjoy its picturesque alleyways and amazing views of the valleys below. Having been home to Pope Pius II, the town is filled with interesting historical sites, great shopping, delicious lunch spots and plenty of inspirational scenery to paint. From one of the overlooks, I chose this beautiful vineyard perched above the rolling hills for my subject. Diagonally planted grapevines lead your eye to the quintessential Tuscan farmhouse, surrounded by cypress and jaw-dropping views. May this one transport you to this magical place!

We capped the night off with an amazing Michelin dinner surrounded by new friends and drifted off to sleep, full, happy and at peace.

Making pasta memories!
