New "October Transitions II" - Aspen Tree oil painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"October Transitions II" ©2017 Niki Gulley
36" x 36" oil on canvas

I love painting aspen trees and I usually work with a more primary color palette, but in this painting, I wanted to convey a quieter, more peaceful mood. Opting for calming grey greens, soft golds and reds with hints of teal, Harmonic Hues reminds me of the serenity I feel while walking through the forest on a cool autumn day, being totally immersed in nature, not a care in the world. I hope you are transported, too!

For more information on "October Transitions II", please contact my gallery, the Good Art Company Gallery, in Fredericksburg, goodartcompany.com/gac/.

First Place Award for "Following the Leader" by Niki Gulley

"Following the Leader" ©2017 Niki Gulley
24" x 12" textured oil painting on canvas

I'm excited that this painting just won first place at the Artists of Texas H2O show held in Corpus Christi!

Gold, white, tangerine – quicksilver Koi slice through silent waters. Playful, darting fish follow each other up through the composition, while cool colors float and ripple across the painting forming tranquil patterns.  A happy threesome glides by, lifting your spirits as you gaze into this vertical panorama while thick strokes of paint created with palette knife add dimension and movement.

Palette Knife Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Texas Pride II" ©2017 Niki Gulley
20" x 30" textured oil painting on canvas • SOLD

I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the painting can be hung without a frame for a contemporary look. Or, I also have a beautiful espresso floater frame where you can still see the painted edges of the canvas if you prefer framed artwork.

The original oil painting of "Texas Pride II" is sold, but canvas prints are available. Please e-mail Niki@NikiGulley.com for pricing and ordering information.

New "Cultivating Aromas" Palette Knife Lavender Painting by Niki Gulley

“Cultivating Aromas” ©2017 Niki Gulley
20” x 30” acrylic on canvas

The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. Rippling purple rows draw your eye to the lone stone farmhouse in the distance while clouds drift by also in rhythmic waves, both creating a flowing harmony. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene!

New "Under the Old Oak Tree" Texas Hill Country Painting by Niki Gulley

"Under the Old Oak Tree," Texas Hill Country ©2017 Niki Gulley
30" x 40" textured oil painting

Inspired by a trip to the hill country, I wanted you to feel the warmth and beauty on this perfect spring day while out for a leisurely drive among the bluebonnets and Texas wildflowers. I was drawn to this stately, gnarly live oak tree perched on a mound of bluebonnets, looking larger than life. The dramatic clouds behind it seemed to all be pointing at it, too, drawing even more attention to its beauty. I wanted to capture that feeling of drama and capture its spirit in my composition. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture, the resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color, movement and energy, just like the scenery which inspired it.

New "Witnessing Sunset" Palette Knife Bluebonnet painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Witnessing Sunset," Texas Hill Country  ©2017 Niki Gulley
30" x 48" textured oil painting

Inspired by a trip to the Willow City Loop in the Texas hill country, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling landscape and wildflowers in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment while enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds and rows of bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush in rhythmic waves create a harmonious scene that flows with light, texture and color.

"April's Bounty" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"April's Bounty"  ©2016 Niki Gulley
24" x 36" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired by a trip to the hill country, I wanted you to feel the warmth and beauty on this perfect spring day. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture, the resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color, movement and energy. Using thick oil paint and palette knives, I arranged the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush diagnonally to create energy and movement, keeping your eye traveling from blossom to blossom. Choosing soft golds and violets for the background creates contrast against the foreground grasses and adds a warmth to the overall scene so that you feel the joy and serenity of being immersed in the Texas hill country.

"Memories of Sunshine II" ©2017 Niki Gulley
30" x 40" textured painting on wrap around canvas

"Memories of Sunshine" was inspired by our trip to Provence, France last summer. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers were in full bloom. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance, and a beautiful summer day with a few peaceful clouds drifting by made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is full of warmth, color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.
