Just Sold! Painted on location, I wanted this piece to be very inviting and relaxing.  The tide laps against the shore so that you can hear the rhythmic, soothing music of the waves cresting and falling. Sunlight rakes across the wooden porch while you gently rock, enjoying the sounds and the view. Whenever I visit the seashore I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

On the third day of our Slovenia / Croatia Art Trek, my husband (Scott Williams) led the photographers and tourists back to the amazing waterfall park to explore some more. Since it is challenging to paint in there with the narrow walkways and many tourists in the afternoon, we stayed to paint at our b & b. I loved the laundry drying on the line in their backyard with the unusual Croatia roofline in the distance.

That evening, we all gathered together for another delicious Croatian meal.

Just sold! I painted these roses from the still life with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look. 

This floral looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my other contemporary flower paintings. Hang them horizontally, vertically, on a diagonal or stacked.

Visiting a Waterfall Paradise in Croatia with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On our second full day of our Slovenia / Croatia Art Trek, we drove over the border into Croatia to visit their amazing state park, Plitvice Lakes. Connected by hundreds of waterfalls flowing into "hanging lakes," the scenery is a nature lover's paradise! Water cascades over cliffs into crystal clear turquoise waters below as far as one hikes in any direction. It is unlike any place else we've ever visited.

After exploring the park, we checked into our b and b for the night and dined on a traditional dinner that evening. Another fantastic day!

Painting Dragons in Slovenia with Niki Gulley

Slovenia and Croatia Art Trek - Day 1
Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

This summer, my husband, Scott Williams, and I led an Art Trek to Slovenia and Croatia where we taught photography, painting and showed the rest of our group who weren't painting or photographing some of the highlights in those countries. It was an amazing trip, and everyone said it was probably two of their favorite countries they'd ever visited!

On our first day, we arrived in Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. The city is lined with dragons everywhere since they are the symbol for the city and they even have a Dragonolgy course through the local college! We chose to paint their famous Dragon Bridge while the photographers shot and explored the city. Above is one of the bronze creatures that greet you as you're crossing the bridge.

That afternoon we gave everyone free time to explore the castle, the beautiful city streets and architecture, shop, etc. and that evening we gathered for an amazing meal at their Michelin rated restaurant. A perfect ending to a wonderful day!

Just Sold!  Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our backs, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.

New Autumn Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Just Sold! I created "Exploring the Woods II" on another beautiful day this fall at one of my favorite painting spots near our home. The kaleidoscope of autumn colors was ablaze, and I was attracted to the dappled light sneaking through small gaps in the forested canopy, illuminating the winding path and brilliant grasses below. Playing off of the diagonal shadows on the ground and the zig zag arrangement of the trunks, I feel like the patterns create a kind of rhythm, adding to the sounds in the woods in this canvas. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this landscape is filled with color, movement and energy!
