I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. So in Poppy Passion, I combined memories of places I’ve been with intense saturated colors to convey that joy I feel when I come across a gorgeous field of poppies.

I used to love it as a kid when my parents would take me to the forest preserves near our home outside of Chicago. We would spend the whole day bike riding, picnicking and being immersed in nature and I relished this time with my family. In Blazing Transitions II I wanted to recreate those warm memories, choosing reds and yellows of autumn to heighten those happy feelings and using energetic strokes with my paint reminiscent of a carefree, simpler time.

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a violet blue sky filled with big, puffy clouds. And, by arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery are enhanced.

I wanted you to feel the joy and peacefulness of walking through the forest ablaze with color on a beautiful autumn day. I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the paintings can be hung without a frame for a unique sculptural effect.

Inspired by our trip to Provence last summer, I was awestruck by these massive fields of sunflowers blooming. Seeing this brilliant carpet of gold, with its sea of faces smiling towards the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. In person "Sun Drenched III" practically leaps off the canvas with its vibrant yellow petals and extremely thick three-dimensional paint.

Usually in Texas you see an expansive carpet of cobalt when the bluebonnets are in bloom and conditions are just right. But, occasionally you will happen across a rarer field of Indian Paintbrush, and that unexpected sea of red is such a delight for your senses! I wanted to capture that excited feeling and the kaleidoscope of colors in "Painted Hills" while driving through the Texas hill country in sprintime. Created with extremely thick paint and palette knives, in person this hilly landscape is filled with texture and vibrant wildflowers that dance in the open terrain.
